RIP Android Apps in Windows 11

In this article, we will talk about the End of Support for the Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11.

Since the Release of Windows 11, Microsoft marketed Windows 11 as an OS that would officially have support for Android Apps. They partnered with Amazon and had a lot of Apps and Games implemented through the Amazon Appstore.

However, users didn’t really like the support they had, and always wanted official support for the Google Play Store in WSA. This won’t ever be the case, as Microsoft ends the Support for WSA as of March 6th 2024.

This is the official Microsoft statement:

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android™️ (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025. Until then, technical support will remain available to customers.
Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025. Please reach out to our support team for further questions at support.microsoft.com. We are grateful for the support of our developer community and remain committed to listening to feedback as we evolve experiences.

Also in the Microsoft Store, there is a New Notice regarding the end of support.

In my opinion, this is sad news, but it’s a decision Microsoft had to take, as WSA didn’t have the reach they wanted.
