New Windows 11 Build 22635.3790 – New Start Menu, New Taskbar Settings, New Open With Dialog (Beta)

In this article, we will talk about the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build for the Beta Channel, which is Build 22635.3790.

Microsoft is making some changes to the Beta Channel:

  • They will no longer release 2 different builds for the Beta Channel, and everyone will now be on the same build
  • Insiders who want all the new features will need to toggle on the get the latest updates as they are available setting in Windows Update
  • Features will be tested in 2 different ways: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available and then new features, improvements, and fixes gradually rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel. 

New Start Menu

Microsoft is rolling out a new feature, which allows you to use your mobile device directly from the Start menu on your Windows 11 PCs, to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. With this feature, you can stay connected and effortlessly access your mobile device’s functionalities right from the Start menu.

Requirements:

  • Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3790 and higher in the Beta Channel. (Other Insider Channels coming at a later date.)
  • Phone Link version 1.24052.124.0 and higher.

New Features with this:

  • View your phone’s battery status and connectivity right from the Start menu on your Windows 11 PC
  • Access your phone messages, calls, and photos directly from Start
  • Pick up where you left off with the latest activities from your phone

New Copilot App

The evolved Copilot experience on Windows where it is pinned to the taskbar and behaves like an app is now rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11. 

New Taskbar Settings

Also in this Build, Microsoft is testing 2 New Taskbar Settings, which are Show shortened time and date and also Show notications bell icon.

New Open With Dialog

Microsoft is also testing a New Open With Dialog, which will expand whenever you want to show more apps that can open a certain file type.

Fixes in this Build

File Explorer

  • Addressed contrast issues of certain elements in File Explorer (left navigation pane, view pane/folder view, status bar buttons on the bottom right) in light, dark, and high contrast themes. E.g., adjustments to make it easier to see when a file or folder is selected.

Settings App

  • We fixed the issue where Settings was crashing when trying to look at wi-fi properties.
  • Fixed an issue where when attempting to install an optional feature via Settings > System > Option features, it might crash Settings in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build in the Beta Channel.
