Windows 11 is Getting a New Performance Boost in 2027 (Intel APX)

In this article, we will talk about the New Performance Feature that Microsoft is working behind the scenes, which is called Intel APX.

In the Experimental Future Platforms Channel from the Windows 11 Insider Program, Microsoft is working on the New Platform for Windows 11 27H2 which will be released in 2027.

One of the New Features that they are testing is called Intel APX or Intel Advanced Performance Extensions which will make processors more efficient in Windows 11.

As stated by Intel, APX doubles the number of general-purpose registers (GPRs) from 16 to 32. This allows the compiler to keep more values in registers. As a result, code compiled with Intel APX contains 10% fewer loads and more than 20% fewer stores than the same code compiled for an Intel® 64 baseline.2 Register accesses are not only faster, but they also consume significantly less dynamic power than complex load and store operations.

More information about Intel APX, can be found in this article from Intel.

In the latest Experimental Future Platforms Build, which is the Build 29695, Microsoft is testing this feature more and we can see the first few mentions of Intel APX.

XenoPanther on Twitter/X has discovered some of the latest changes in this Build, which include the mention of Intel APX:

He also shared some screenshots of how that Feature Toggle would look in the Settings App in Windows 11.
