How to Clean Up Disk Space in Windows 11

In this article I will show you how to Clean Up Disk Space in Windows 11 using only tools provided by Microsoft and no third party apps. The process will be done entirely from the Settings app from Windows 11.

The reason for which you would want to Clean Up Disk Space in Windows 11 would be that when the operating system is out of storage it will perform slower and you will encounter lag spikes even in games if you don’t have enough disk space.

Let’s begin the process by opening up the settings app from Windows 11. Click on the Search Box and type there Settings. If you right on it and click on Pin to Taskbar you can easily pin it to the taskbar and have access to it faster.

In the System section scroll down and click on Storage. Here, Windows will automatically analyze the system and tell you which categories of files take up the most of the space from the operating system.

If you click on Apps & Features you will be able to see all the apps installed on the system, their size and other useful information. If you have apps that you no longer use, I strongly recommend you to uninstall them.

Next, we are going to click on Temporary Files and here you will be able to see the categories of files that you have on your system. Windows Update Cleanup files take up the most of the space so it is recommended to delete them once in a while. Also check the Downloads folder for files that you no longer need and after that also select the Downloads folder so that Windows will delete files from there also. You can check the other categories without any concerns because those categories are certain types of temporary files. In this case we managed to free up 1GB of storage from our Windows partition.

Click on Remove files when you are ready to see the results.

Go back to Storage and under Temporary files click on Show more categories. Here you will be able to see other categories of files that can use a lot of space. Make sure to check and delete only files that you no longer need.

This is how easily you can free up disk space in Windows 11. For a more in depth explanation you can check the video below from the youtube channel.
