How to Enable New Windowed ALT+TAB on Windows 11 22526

In this article, I will show you how to manually Enable the New Windowed Alt + Tab on Windows 11 22526, the latest version from the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program.

In the Build 22526 of Windows 11, Microsoft introduced a new experience and that is a new display for the Alt + Tab Menu. The Menu can now be displayed in Windowed Mode, which will help you focus on your work even when you are trying to switch between windows.

The only issue is that Microsoft introduced this feature only for a small part of the Windows Insider Community. But don’t worry, in this article I will show you how to manually enable this feature.

Download Vivetool from Github

First of all, you will need to download Vivetool from Github, using the link above. Simply click on the zip file and download it on your Desktop.

You now need to extract the downloaded archive into the System32 folder in Windows. Right-click on the archive, click on Show more options and then on Extract Files.

Select the System32 location as shown in the image below and then click on OK.

Next up, you will need to open CMD as Administrator. Open the Start Menu and type in there CMD. Right-click on CMD and then click on Run as Administrator.

In CMD you will need to copy and paste the following command:

vivetool addconfig 36226836 2

If everything is ok, you show receive the message Successfully set feature configuration.

Make sure to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

After the restart you should be able to enjoy the new Alt + Tab experience in Windows 11.

For a more in-depth tutorial, you can watch the video below from the youtube channel.

Alternatively, you can use this second method in order to enable the new Alt + Tab menu.

Use the following code to edit some registries in Windows 11:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\4\702590604]
"EnabledState"=dword:00000002
"EnabledStateOptions"=dword:00000001
"Variant"=dword:00000000
"VariantPayload"=dword:00000000
"VariantPayloadKind"=dword:00000000

Save it as text file and rename it to yourfilename.reg and then merge it.

To undo just navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\4

And in the Registry Editor and delete the key:

  1. Hello,

    Thank you for your very easy to follow videos and instructions 🙂

    I followed the steps, but the ALT+TAB doesn’t seem to change from before. I used to have it like this but then I needed to reset my laptop and the function has changed since then. Sometimes it is not even working properly, not showing the window I am selecting to bring to the front.
