The latest Windows 11 24H2 Update KB5063878 is causing issues with SSDs, such as SSDs disappearing or even file corruption.

A Reddit post also shows the list of SSDs affected by this issue, and people talk about a lot of different storage related issues that come with this update.

You can see that on the list we have various different popular brands of SSDs such as Samsung, WD or even Seagate.

Also user Necoru_cat on Twitter has done a full report on this issue, based on user feedback and he provides more information about the issue.

He stated the following:

Summary of KB5063878 storage-related issues

1. Drives disappear from the OS (SMART data also becomes unreadable); in some cases, access to the buffered tree is possible, but files cannot be read.

2. Occurs during heavy write operations to specific storage.

3. Suspected issue with the operation of the drive cache.

4. High likelihood of file corruption when symptoms occur.

5. Rebooting temporarily recovers the lost state, but the issue reoccurs with similar write operations.

6. Our tests show that symptoms appear on SSDs with over 60% usage after approximately 50GB of continuous writing. Reports indicate similar symptoms on HDDs as well.

7. Our tests suggest that Phison NAND controllers are relatively prone to issues, with DRAM-less models from the same company tending to exhibit issues at lower write volumes.

8. Similar to the WD SN770 HMB issue, restricting or disabling HMB memory does not resolve the symptoms, and a memory leak in the OS-buffered region is suspected
