In this article, we will talk about the latest hidden features that were discovered in Windows 11, which lead to Microsoft working on a New File Explorer Design.
Shoutout to Firecube, Xeno, and PhantomOcean3 for their contribution in discovering these new hidden features.
File Explorer will get an Updated Design to match Windows 11’s UI. There will be a new XAML based Home Page and Updated Details Pane, with ‘Insights’ (small clickable objects, purpose unknown), and Recommended Content (files, not ads it seems).
The screenshot below showcases the New Activities Section and some of the updated views, building up to a New Reconstruction of the File Explorer Home Page.
This will be a New Clickable Object that could be a tip or extra details, called “Insights”.
The New Gallery Section in the File Explorer will get more improvements such as filtering by date or name.
The Recommended Content in the File Explorer will have the Turn Off Option and in the 2nd screenshot below, you can see the Special Recommendation Folder.
Also New sharing/online stuff coming, insights may be tied to this. Page itself may be sharing based and at least part of it related to file activity may require internet connectivity.
Something called “Conversations” is also mentioned, which could lead to us thinking that Microsoft wants to implement some sort of Messaging Integration.
All these hidden features are found in Build 25272, the latest Dev Channel Build from the Windows Insider Program, but it can’t be enabled, because of how incomplete there are.
As for a possible Release Date, it could be as early as Moment 3 but since it’s a major feature it may as well be for the ‘Major’ 23H2 Update.
