The Auto-Discovery Feature is pretty useless Feature inside Windows 11, that will slow down pretty much any Folder that contains a large number of Media Files.

The stupid «Auto-Discovery» feature is still turned on by default in Windows 11. Thanks to it, Windows Explorer is disgustingly slow in folders with many files. You can only fix this problem via a registry hack.

How to Disable the Auto-Discovery Feature

Open Search, type Powershell and open it as administrator. Inside Powershell, type the following command:

Set-ItemProperty -Path 'HKCU:\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell' -Name 'FolderType' -Value 'NotSpecified' -Type String

Next up, make sure to open Task Manager, search for Explorer and then Restart it.
