New Windows 11 May 2023 Update – New Features for the Main Release (Build 22621.1702)

In this article, we will talk about the latest Windows 11 Update for the Main Release, Build 22621.1702 or KB5026372.

For those of you who are not familiar with how Windows 11 Updates for the Main Release work, I will explain it to you in the following lines.

Every month Windows 11 has a B and a C Release for Windows 11. Usually, the B Release is launched on the second Tuesday of the month and contains all the features that were tested in the previous month’s C Release.

Particular to this Build, you can encounter the following:

  • This update adds a new toggle control on the Settings > Windows Update page. When you turn it on, we will prioritize your device to get the latest non-security updates and enhancements when they are available for your device. For managed devices, the toggle is disabled by default. For more information, see Get Windows updates as soon as they’re available for your device.
  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5025305 (released April 25, 2023). When you install this KB:

  • This update affects the Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection security feature. The update adds more drivers to the database of drivers that are not compatible with it. A device uses this database when you enable this security feature in the Windows Security UI and it loads the drivers.
  • This update addresses a race condition in Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS). The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) might stop responding. This occurs when the system processes multiple local account operations at the same time. The access violation error code is 0xc0000005.

This Update also includes Improvements from last month’s C Release:

  • This update adds animations to a few icons on the Widgets taskbar button. These animations turn on when:
    • A new announcement appears on the Widgets taskbar button.
    • You hover over or click the Widgets taskbar button.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects Microsoft Edge IE mode. Pop-up windows open in the background instead of in the foreground.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects the Chinese input method. You cannot see all of the first suggested item.
