In this article, we will talk about the New Windows 11 24H2 and all its New Features.
Windows 11 24H2 is set to be released later this year, most likely in October. It will bring a lot of Improvements to Windows 11, along with a lot of New Features that were highly requested.
Windows Recall
Windows Recall is one of the few AI Features that have been delayed and will only be available at the beginning for Copilot+ PCs.
It is basically an App that runs in the background and captures snapshots of everything you see and do on your computer.
You have the ability to search for anything you’ve ever done on your PC with natural language and you have a timeline interface with the ability to scroll back through all the snapshots that have been captured over the period of time you’ve set.
You can capture apps, sentences, webpages, documents, photos, videos, and more.
The Data Saved is stored locally, and you can easily turn it off.
As I’ve said, Windows Recall has been postponed due to security issues at the initial release and will most likely not be a part of the Initial Windows 11 24H2 Release.
Windows Studio Effects
This is again an AI Feature that uses AI to enhance video and audio in any app, by applying certain effects.
It also has Quick Settings support with background blur, eye correction, portrait light, and illustrative filters which are the only thing specific to Windows 11 24H2.
New Live Captions
On Copilot+ PCs, the New Live Captions App will have the power to translate 40+ languages in real-time or for pre-recorded content.
New Paint with Image Creator
The Paint App in Windows 11 24H2 for Copilot+ PCs brings a New Feature called Image Creator, which allows you to Create an Image based on a Description and a selected Style.
New Photos App with Image Generator
A similar Feature to the one in the Paint App, is in the works also for the New Photos App.
AI Super Resolution
This Copilot+ PCs AI Features uses AI to make supported games play more smoothly with enhanced details.
New Copilot App
The New Copilot App has been downgraded to a web app with an Updated UI and Sidebar.
It can be pinned on the taskbar and it acts like a normal App that can also be uninstalled.
This is rolling to Windows 11 for quite a while, but Windows 11 24H2 should bring it to all users.
New Voice Clarity
This is also an AI Feature that removes background noise in calls/recordings.
New File Explorer
The File Explorer in Windows 11 24H2 has some Context Menu improvements such as Action Icons with labels at the top and also the ability to create archive in more formats.
You will also be able to encounter a New Home Page with Shared Files and the ability to view and edit metadata for .png files.
New Quick Settings
The Quick Settings in Windows 11 brings a New scrollable view, a Wi-Fi Connections Refresh Button, VPN and Live Captions integration.
New Taskbar
The Taskbar in Windows 11 will have in the future New App Thumbnails and Animations. Along side with that New Keyboard Controls to jump through apps, the ability to remove the bell notification icon and also a New Shortened time/date.
Other things that can be noted would be a New Wi-Fi animation when connecting and a more visible progress bar design for Apps.
Networking
Related to Networking, Microsoft is introducing support for Wi-Fi 7 and also the ability to see the Wi-Fi password in the Settings App.
New Settings App
The Settings App in Windows 11 24H2 brings a New Color Management Page, an AI Components Page (delayed with Recall), hearing aids with Bluetooth Low Energy Audio (LE Audio) technology, Bluetooth and Devices improvements along with a New Microsoft Test Section.
Microsoft also includes New location request notifications from apps in Privacy and security and New Mouse Options (enhance pointer precision, change scrolling direction).
Finally, we will also have Windows Protected Print Mode Support for certain printers without needing third-party drivers.
New Phone Link
The New Phone Link App is receiving quite a lot of updates with the New File Explorer integration which allows you to easily copy files to and from your phone.
Phone Link also has a New Start Menu integration, with info about your connected phone and quick links to the App.
New Energy Saver
Windows 11 24H2 brings Battery life improvements for laptops, a New Energy Saver Icon in the System Tray and Quick Settings and also New Power&Battery Controls in the Settings App.
New Task Manager
Task Manager is also getting some improvements with a New Settings Page and Mica integration.
Sudo Command
Microsoft is also bringing New command line support for Sudo directly in Windows 11.
New Microsoft Teams
The Microsoft Teams in Windows 11 24H2 is a unified app for both school, work and personal with the new ability of switching between accounts in the app, also with different notifications for different accounts.
Removed Apps in Windows 11 24H2
Cortana, Mail, Calendar, Maps, People, Wordpad and Movies & TV and other less known services have been deprecated in Windows 11 24H2.
BitLocker in Windows 11 24H2
BitLocker in Windows 11 24H2 will be automatically enabled on clean installs, but can be easily disabled if you check this article.
New Windows 11 24H2 Installation Process
Windows 11 24H2 includes a New OS Media Setup and a revamped second half of OOBE for Microsoft Account users.
Under the Hood Improvements
Improved performance for Arm devices thanks to a bunch of platform work and a new PRISM emulation layer for Arm which makes apps run up to 10% faster along with Improved performance for devices with Ryzen 9000, 7000 and 5000 series CPUs.
Rust is also in the Windows Kernel and checkpoint cumulative updates and hotpatching (some devices will begin to see security updates that don’t require a reboot).
Release Date
As with every Major Windows 11 Release, this Version is expected to launch at the end of September or at the beginning of October.
