Fix: Game Bar Not Working in Windows 10

In this article I am going to show you how to fix the Game Bar not working in Windows 10. The Game Bar is a default application in Windows 10 that you can access using the keyboard combination Windows + G.

The Game Bar is mainly used to record gameplay or the Windows screen. If your Game Bar is not working, not opening or not responding read this article for a few steps that should help you fix this issue.

  • Make sure the Game Bar is activated

Click on the Start Button and then on the Settings icon. There go down a bit and click on Gaming, then on Xbox Game Bar. Make sure Enable Xbox Game Bar for things like recording game clips, chatting with friends, and receiving game invites is turned on.

  • Fullscreen games issue

In some fullscreen games the Game Bar is not showing up, but that doesn’t mean that it is not working. In fullscreen games you can use the keyboard combination Windows + Alt + R to Start or Stop the recording using the Game Bar from Windows 10. The recordings will be saved in default location.

  • Reset the Xbox App

Click on the Start Button and then on the Settings icon. There go down a bit and click on Apps, then scroll down to Xbox Game Bar. Click on it and then on Advanced options. After that scroll down to the Reset section. From there you can Repair and also Reset the app. I recommend you to Repair it first and after that if it’s not working Reset it, in order to reset all of its data.

In addition to this you can also Terminate the app and then Restart the system for the changes to take effect.

  • Enable and Disable the Game Bar using Local Group Policy Editor

For this open the Search Box and type there gpedit to open Edit Group Policy. From there expand the following location path: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Game Recording and Broadcasting.

You will have there the following Setting: Enables or disables Windows Game Recording and Broadcasting. Double click on it and make sure it is enabled. Then Apply and OK. After all this, restart the system for the changes to take effect.
