Fix: This PC can’t run Windows 11 – The PC must support Secure Boot (Legacy BIOS Mode to UEFI)

In this article we are going to talk about how to install Windows 11 in case your computer is not compatible and doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements such as Secure Boot.

We are going to talk about how to enable Secure Boot on a system. If you are using the Legacy Boot Mode you need to use the UEFI Boot Mode in order to be able to enable the Secure Boot option.

A problem that can appear is that if you are using the Legacy Bios Mode, your windows partition would be an MBR type and when you enable the UEFI Boot Mode, you won’t be able to boot on your operating system anymore.

A solution to that is to convert the windows partition from MBR to GPT. See this article from Intel that explains the whole process in depth.

Check your Windows partition type

Right click on This PC and then click on Management. After that click on Disk Management. Here right click on your Disk and click on Properties. Then go to Volumes and check your Partition style. If it is MBR, it has to be converted to GPT.

Convert the Windows partition to GPT

We are going to use the Recovery Environment from Windows to access the Command Prompt where we are going to run a command that will convert our windows partition from MBR to GPT.

Right click on the Start Button and on Shut down or sign out, while holding SHIFT on your keyboard click on the Restart button.

Now Windows will boot in the Recovery Mode. Here click on Troubleshoot and then on Advanced Options. After that click on Command Prompt.

In command prompt enter the following command:

mbr2gpt.exe /convert

After you run the command by pressing Enter, Windows will do all the necessary processes in order to convert the Windows partition from the MBR partition style to GPT.

After the process is finished, exit out of the command prompt and then click on Turn Off your PC.

Open the computer again and then press the BIOS key for your motherboard. It could be F2, F12, Del. Search your motherboard on google and see what is your boot key.

In the BIOS, go to the Boot section. Select Boot Mode and set it to UEFI.

Then go to the Security section, and enable Secure Boot.

Press F10 to exit and Save the changes.

This is how easy it is to solve this issue and then you will be able to upgrade to Windows 11.
