New Windows 11 Build 26120.461 – Windows 11 24H2 on the Dev Channel and more

In this article, we will talk about the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build for the Dev Channel, which is Build 26120.461.

There some changes to the Dev Channel and some of the most important have also been mentioned by PhantomOcean3 on Twitter:

  • this is just an Enablement Package, KB5037898, on top of 26100, not a full new build (26100 is still RTM)
  • this will likely head to the Beta Channel at a future date, it comes from the ge_release_svc_betaflt_prod1 branch, packages refer to the Enablement Package as a Beta EKB and it shows up in update history with a title mentioning “Beta Channel”
  • the purpose of this EKB and CUs is to test the remaining features for the initial 24H2 release in September as well as features planned to come after GA
  • Feature Drops will probably return under a new codename (not Moments anymore).
  • For Insiders in the Dev Channel who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle (shown in the image below) to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update.

Changes and Improvements in this Build

  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.
  • Microsoft paused the rollout of certain Copilot Features, such as Copilot acting like a normal window or New Copilot Animations
  • Microsoft is rolling out a fix for the issue causing Copilot to auto-launch unexpectedly for Windows Insiders in the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels after restarting their PCs. This issue was unrelated to the auto-launching experience.
  • The New AI Explorer Icon is present in this Build

Reminders for the Dev Channel Insiders

  • Updates released to the Dev Channel are based off Windows 11, version 24H2.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
  • Copilot in Windows** in preview is being rolled out gradually to Windows Insiders in select global markets. The initial markets for the Copilot in Windows preview include North America, United Kingdom and parts of Asia and South America. It is our intention to add additional markets over time.
