Windows 11 23H2 – New Features + Release

In this article, we will talk about Windows 11 23H2. Everything you need to know about New Features and Release.

The Beta Channel is ending the 22624 branch, and the recent news point to the Windows 11 23H2 Update coming into the Beta Channel, possibly next week.

The Build 22631.1825 is expected in the Beta Channel and the higher Build jump likely means this is in fact 23H2.

This is not a full Build but is 22621 with an enablement package (update that enables a velocity feature and artificially increments the build number) applied to it.

New Features Expected in Windows 11 23H2:

  • New File Explorer with New Home, New Details Pane, Recommendations, and more
  • New End Task Button on Taskbar Right-Click
  • Hide System Tray date/time
  • Emoji 15.0

Build 22631.xxxx is related to the 23xxx series of builds in a similar way to how early 22000 cumulative updates and feature experience packs were related to 221xx builds.

New features targeted for 23H2 start off in ni_moment branches (internal 23xxx) where they are in a very early stage, they then get pushed to ni_prerelease for further testing and eventually testing with Dev Insiders – when a feature goes to Dev there is a very good chance it will end up in Beta as 23xxx is where Windows 11 targeted features are developed, reverse integration of 23xxx features into 22621 (22631 is just 22621) tends to happen a few weeks or less after the feature pops up in 23xxx, with the exception of the Moment the feature is tied to not being tested (example: FE Recommendations not popping up in Beta for two months as it is an M4 targeted feature while Beta has been testing M3).
