In this article, we will talk about the New Notepad App in Windows 11, which brings a feature that was requested by a lot of users for many years.
The newly redesigned Notepad app is starting to roll out in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This app is slowly rolling out, so if you don’t have it yet, be patient because you will receive it in the following days.
How to Install
If you are enrolled in the Dev Channel of Windows Insider Program, all you need to do is to open the Microsoft Store, click on Library in the left side and then click on Get Updates and Update All on the right side.
What is new in the Notepad App
The first thing that we can notice in this new app is that we finally have the new Dark Mode for Notepad. We no longer need to install third-party apps with Dark Mode, we can now use the official Notepad from Windows 11.
It also has improved performance for typing, language switching, and more.
The app also has a new settings interface, where you can select the App theme. You can select Light, Dark, or Use system settings.
Use system setting will match the theme that you have selected in Windows 11.
For those of you interested, this is how the Notepad app looks with Light theme enabled.
In the Settings section, you can also customize the font used in the app and you can see a preview down below.
The app also has a new Replace menu that looks really nice and has the new Windows 11 animations.
More info about the app on the official Microsoft Blog Post.
For a more in-depth presentation, you can watch the video below from the youtube channel.
The UI is really elegant and dark mode is the best new feature! After so long Microsoft finally added these handy features. I think one cool feature Microsoft should add in the future version of notepad is the feature to change the formatting of text. Like making text bold, underlining text, etc..
