New Windows 11 25H2 Update Breaks PC Games and Windows Defender (Build 26200.9168 or KB5121003)

In this article, we will talk about some New Windows 11 25H2 Update Issues, such as Unresponsive PC Games and Crashed Windows Defender.

These Issues can be encountered in the latest Windows 11 25H2 Update for the Main Release and not in the Huge Windows 11 25H2 Summer Update, which is now only available for the Release Preview Channel.

Broken PC Games

Following the release of Windows updates on August 11, 2026 (KB5121003) and later, Microsoft received reports of issues involving inability to run certain games as expected.

Ongoing investigation indicates that this issue is related to peripherals or internal device components which have RGB lighting features. Such devices may install drivers or code components with file names similar to inpoutx64. In systems where these drivers are found, the issue is then triggered by launching certain games.

The games mentioned in reports of this issue are ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Symptoms include:

the game application becomes unresponsive
the game application closes without notice
the error “EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” is displayed
the device restarts without warning

Microsoft is presently working to understand the relationship between these RGB components and the games which trigger this issue. We will provide an update when more information is available.

Affected platforms:

Client: Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2
Server: None

Crashed Windows Defender

It appears Microsoft released a bad update to Windows Defender, causing it to crash a few seconds after attempting to perform a Full Scan or Quick Scan. Offline scans reportedly stop at around 90-93% of completion. The latest version of the Microsoft Safety Scanner is reportedly affected as well.

Windows Defender versions affected by this are v1.1.26070.7 and v1.1.26080.2 when used with the following Microsoft Security Intelligence Update versions:

  • 1.457.222.0
  • 1.457.225.0
  • 1.457.226.0
  • 1.457.227.0
  • 1.457.230.0

A quick Fix for this Issue, if to update Windows Defender Security to the latest Version from Windows Update.
